Your Behavior Creates Your Gender

What does it mean that gender is performative?
Judith Butler who is a feminist philosopher explains that ıt’s one thing to say that gender is performed and that is a little different from saying gender is performative. When we say gender is performed we usually mean that we’ve taken on a role or we’re acting in some way and that our acting or our role-playing is crucial to the gender that we are and the gender that we present to the world. To say that gender is performative is a little different because for something to be performative means that it produces a series of effects. We act and walk and speak and talk in ways that consolidate an impression of being a man or being a woman. So in my words people born with sexual organs and they are named as a girl or boy according to their sexual organs. It is clear that we are created biologically by God but actually our behaviors create our gender .For example you were born in woman but you feel like man do so Are you still a woman? Or in contrast you were born in man but you feel like woman do so Are you still a man? Both these 2 questions are related to our behavior not to our biologically existence. Furthermore, a woman was not born in woman but she will be or a man was not born in man but he will be so we can understand that gender has a cultural norms. It shapes our behavior to be a man or woman. In the video clip there is a real story about transgender and their new choices. Katie (19) she was born male and Arin (17) he was born female. From a very young age both of them realized that they were different.Arin’s mother put her in dance and she found that it is a girl stuff. And then she realized that she likes playing with cars and guys. And Katie when she was young and a little boy, he did not suppose to be a boy and he likes women clothes. And when they were teenagers they convinced their families to help them transitions to sex they born as to sex they want to be. And according to their recent interview they are happy to be in different genders. So this real story shows that people born male or female biologically but If they are acting and walking and speaking and talking in ways that a man or a woman do they automatically in the position of their opposite genders. As a result of Judith Butler’s and story’s claim is that our gender is created by our feelings and behaviors.
