My scene is an American series of fashion dolls created by Mattel in 2002. My Scene dolls have slim bodies similar to earlier Barbie dolls, but with larger heads. We know that Barbie dolls is the most obvious example of girly girl culture with being about only fashion and beauty and pink. However, after Bratz came into the business, competition began. These My Scene Dolls is a product to compete with Bratz Dolls. They have exaggerated lips and bulging, makeup-caked eyes like and of course a huge head like Bratz, but they also have normal slim Barbie bodies.
When Barbie first introduced every little even grown up women and girls like them. They are adorable cute and beautiful in many ways. You can pick a different clothes and can do whatever you want with them. The dolls’ stories was all about romance beauty fashion and having a boyfriend (unskilled things). I have to admit it that playing with them were so much fun, I was a huge fan when I was kid, too. However, I did not know the sexist approach behind the scenes. Things are getting worse with the Bratz and My Scene Dolls because it is no longer about just beauty. Bratz dolls are looking like bitches in contrast to Barbies. Their style of clothes, the way of looking of their eyes , their make-up is all about being sexy and hot. The princess pink color turns into hot pink. Moreover, there comes My Scene Dolls that the sexiest Barbie Dolls. We can see the way she says ”kisseable” in the YouTube video above when she started to make up.
Girls only can play with these dolls. You cannot see a boy who wants to play with Barbie or Bratz dolls. The society made a distinct definition about what should girls and boys play with. Pink dresses, make up, fashion and home-making things are all about girls, but why? Why dont boys want beautification as girls do. These gender distinct makes boys and girls apart even they were children. These signs of beautification and home-making make a girl ”ordinary wife” , however boys learn how to make a machine (with creative war toys) with gaining skill. Is it the situation that supposed to be? I do not think so.
